On Dec. 14, professional wrestlers will showcase their skills in Westland to help bring smiles to the faces of children.

Sponsored by Wolverine Pro Wrestling, the event will feature a variety of wrestlers who are volunteering their services for the event including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) performer and Livonia native Zach Gowen, ‘Doink the Clown’, Jeff Brooks, ‘Nacho Libre’, Jeff King, and ‘Ringside Revue’. Individuals in attendance will be asked to donate one or more gifts to Toys for Tots in order to generate the toys necessary to help the children of Michigan military families have a brighter holiday season.

According to Lee Tracy, owner of Wolverine Pro Wrestling, the match was a natural fit for the group.

“We appreciate everything the soldiers here in Michigan have done for us and our children,” he said. “We’re just trying to brighten the holidays for kids whose holidays might not be very bright.

He encouraged all residents to stop by and check out the action.

“It’s a great family atmosphere,” he said. “Some parents are kind of offish about professional wrestling because of what they see on television. We don’t get into that. It’s all very family-friendly. My own kids will be there.

After the matches are completed, all of the toys collected will be given to a representative of the United States Marine Corps recruiting office in Westland, who will transport them to Selfridge Air National Guard Base near Mount Clemens. From there, the toys will be distributed to qualifying area military families this holiday season as part of the Toys for Tots program.

Tickets for the event will be available at the door. Admission for adults is $10 plus a toy while admission for children age 13 or younger is $5 plus a toy. .

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with bell time at 6 p.m. Skateland West is located at 37550 Cherry Hill Road, just west of Newburgh Road in Westland. The event is offered in conjunction with the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers of Michigan Fund and Toys for Tots.
